A GPS tracker found at Gaya Airport during routine security screening caused a brief security alert on Sunday. The incident took place during the pre-embarkation check of an international passenger.
Security staff noticed a suspicious object on the X-ray scanner while checking hand luggage. On closer inspection, officers found two GPS tracking devices inside the bag. The GPS tracker found at Gaya Airport raised concerns as such devices require proper permission.
The bag belonged to a foreign national from Chile who was scheduled to travel to Bangkok. Officials questioned the passenger about the devices and asked for valid documents. He failed to provide any approval or clearance related to the GPS trackers.
Airport security immediately informed local police. The passenger and the seized devices were handed over to the police outpost for further inquiry. Officers are now trying to find out why the devices were being carried and whether they were intended for any illegal use.
Police officials said questioning is ongoing and action will follow based on the investigation findings. Airport authorities have also become more alert after the incident.
The case has once again highlighted the importance of strict security checks at sensitive locations like airports to prevent misuse of electronic tracking equipment.
