EU Lawmakers Stall U.S. Trade Deal Over Greenland Issues
European Union lawmakers have delayed approval of a new trade deal with the United States. The deal still needs agreement from both the EU Parliament and the governments of EU member countries.
Many lawmakers criticized the deal as unequal, pointing out that the EU would have to cut most of its import duties, while the U.S. would continue with a flat 15% tariff on EU goods. They argued this creates an unfair advantage for American exporters and could hurt European industries.
The controversy also involves Greenland, as part of the agreement touches on trade and strategic interests related to the island. Lawmakers said these issues need to be resolved before the trade deal moves forward.
Officials from both sides said talks will continue, but approval could be delayed further, affecting trade relations between the EU and the United States.
