US-Led Order Faces Rupture as world leaders push back against Donald Trump’s Greenland campaign at the Davos summit. European officials now seek unity after months of rising tension. As a result, leaders signaled a tougher approach toward Washington.
French President Emmanuel Macron urged the European Union to resist what he called political pressure. He said Europe prefers rules over force. Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called for greater independence. She said Europe must adjust to rapid global changes.
At the same time, Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever warned against appeasing major powers. According to him, unity remains vital to protect Europe’s influence and credibility.
However, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered the strongest warning. He said the US-led system now faces a serious rupture. He also described rising power rivalry and weaker global rules. In addition, Carney warned that compliance no longer guarantees safety. He urged middle powers to work together.
Meanwhile, EU leaders plan an emergency summit in Brussels. Officials may activate tariffs on US goods in early February. Moreover, Macron has supported using the EU’s “trade bazooka.”
Overall, Trump’s Greenland push continues to strain NATO ties. Several European leaders avoided meetings with him in Davos.
