Forty soldiers were among 60 people rescued from a snowbound stretch in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, after being stranded due to heavy snowfall. The rescue operation was carried out successfully by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under Project Sampark.
The operation took place at Chatergala Pass, situated at an altitude of 10,500 feet in the Bhaderwah-Chatergala axis. A defence spokesperson said the BRO team worked under tough high-altitude conditions to restore the road and bring the stranded personnel to safety.
The spokesperson added that the combined effort ensured no casualties and all stranded people were brought back safely. The team used specialised equipment to clear snow and reopen the mountain pass.
Officials praised the quick response and coordination between defence and local authorities. The operation highlights the importance of maintaining connectivity and readiness in high-altitude areas during harsh winter conditions.
