Vizianagaram: A goods train derailed near the signal point of Vizianagaram railway station early on Friday morning, creating panic among railway staff and disrupting traffic. Three wagons of the train tilted to one side after emergency brakes were applied suddenly. Officials said the mishap occurred while the train was moving slowly.
Soon after the incident, railway authorities and a technical team rushed to the spot. Restoration work began immediately to lift the derailed wagons and put them back on track. The officials assured that no casualties or injuries were reported in the accident.
However, train services on the busy route were severely affected. Several express and passenger trains were delayed, causing inconvenience to commuters. Railway officials coordinated with control rooms to reroute some trains while restoration was underway. Passengers waiting at Vizianagaram station expressed frustration over long delays.
Authorities said restoration work was progressing on a war footing and is expected to be completed by afternoon. Once cleared, normal services will resume. A detailed inquiry has been ordered into the cause of the derailment, with initial reports suggesting faulty application of emergency brakes.
