The United States has shut down more than 200 illegal online pharmacies that were linked to an India-based transnational criminal organisation (TCO). The action was taken by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as part of a major crackdown on the illegal sale of medicines.
The DEA conducted searches across several parts of the U.S. starting January 27. During the operation, four people were arrested, and five Immediate Suspension Orders were issued to stop the illegal sale of drugs. These online pharmacies were accused of selling medicines without proper prescriptions and safety checks.
Officials said such illegal pharmacies pose serious risks to public health, as the drugs sold may be unsafe, fake, or of poor quality. The DEA added that international cooperation is important to stop such networks.
The crackdown highlights growing concerns over illegal online drug sales and the need for strict action to protect consumers and ensure safe access to medicines.
