Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tobgay has warned that if artificial intelligence (AI) starts replacing large numbers of people in jobs, it could create a dangerous tipping point for society. He stressed the importance of using AI responsibly and ensuring that technology benefits everyone, rather than causing massive unemployment.
During his visit to New Delhi, PM Tobgay proposed setting up a technological hub in Gelephu, Bhutan, to promote innovation and AI research. He also discussed hydropower cooperation with India to support energy needs for AI development and other technologies.
The PM highlighted the need for regional collaboration in technology, education, and energy to ensure that AI contributes positively to economic growth and human development. He called for training programs, investment in infrastructure, and careful planning so that AI enhances lives instead of creating large-scale disruption.
