India’s plans regarding its oil imports from Russia and the goal of reaching $500 billion in trade with the United States are now under discussion. Sources in the Commerce Ministry said that the Indian trade team’s visit to Washington, which was scheduled for February 23-25, has been postponed to a “mutually convenient date.”
Officials said the postponement gives both sides more time to discuss key trade issues, including energy imports, tariffs, and other economic partnerships. India has been importing crude oil from Russia at discounted rates, while also aiming to increase trade with the U.S. to $500 billion.
Analysts said the delay in the visit may affect short-term decisions but long-term trade and energy plans are expected to continue. Both countries are likely to hold talks soon to balance India’s energy needs with its growing trade relationship with the U.S.
