Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will hand over appointment letters to 1000 doctors on September 1. The event will take place at Punjab Municipal Bhawan, Sector 35A, Chandigarh.
The PCMS exam was held on June 3. Baba Farid University of Health Sciences verified 1,738 candidates by July 4. Out of them, 1,000 were cleared for appointment. The process, however, stalled for two months, creating anxiety among the aspirants.
Doctors staged protests and made repeated appeals to the Health Department. Many said the delay left them demoralised while hospitals continued to struggle with staff shortages. The PCMS Association also pressed the government to act quickly.
Now, the Health Department has deputed senior officers to manage the September 1 programme. Selected candidates welcomed the move. Dr. Dilrajdeep Singh Toor said this was the biggest recruitment drive for medical officers in Punjab. He added that it would give young doctors new opportunities and strengthen healthcare in villages and towns. Officials say the induction of these doctors will improve medical services across Punjab’s hospitals and primary health centres.
