Bihar gets new governor at a time when the state is also preparing for a possible change in political leadership. Retired Army officer Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed as the new Governor of Bihar. The announcement came from President Droupadi Murmu as part of a reshuffle of governors in several states.
According to reports, Bihar gets new governor before the state decides on its next chief minister. Hasnain will replace Arif Mohammed Khan, who served as the governor for about 14 months.
Syed Ata Hasnain is expected to reach Patna around 12 March. After his arrival, he will take oath as the Governor at Raj Bhavan. The Chief Justice of the Patna High Court will administer the oath during the ceremony. Officials say the swearing-in program may take place on 13 March, though the final date is yet to be confirmed.
Hasnain served nearly four decades in the Indian Army. He also led the strategic Chinar Corps in Jammu and Kashmir during his military career.
His appointment comes at a time when Bihar’s political situation remains active and discussions about the next chief minister continue.
