Rajya Sabha Elections 2026: Cross-Voting May Decide Kushwaha vs AD Singh

Rajya Sabha Elections 2026 candidates Upendra Kushwaha and AD Singh during Bihar political contest

The Rajya Sabha Elections 2026 in Bihar have become more competitive as six candidates remain in the race for five seats. No candidate withdrew nomination before the deadline, so voting will take place on March 16 in the state assembly.

In the Rajya Sabha Elections 2026, the main contest is between NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha and RJD leader AD Singh for the fifth seat. Political observers say cross-voting by MLAs could decide who wins the final spot in the Upper House.

The ruling NDA holds 202 MLAs in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. Since a candidate needs 41 votes to win a Rajya Sabha seat, the alliance can easily secure four seats but requires a few extra votes to capture the fifth.

Meanwhile, the opposition alliance has about 35 MLAs and needs support from smaller parties such as AIMIM and BSP to strengthen AD Singh’s chances. Both camps claim they will win, but the final outcome may depend on cross-voting during the March 16 poll.
