Unseasonal Floods in Bihar have disrupted life in several villages of Kishanganj district after heavy rainfall in Nepal increased the water level in nearby rivers. The sudden surge in the Kankai River washed away a temporary bamboo bridge and cut off many villages near the border.
Officials said the flooding began after intense rainfall in Nepal on Thursday evening. The water level in the Kankai and Budhi Kankai rivers rose rapidly and affected areas in the Dighalbank block along the India–Nepal border.
Strong currents destroyed temporary bridges at several points including Palsa, Mandirtola, Balwadangi and Kanchanbari Ghat. Villages such as Dakupura and Talatola have turned into small islands, making travel and supply of daily essentials difficult for residents.
The Unseasonal Floods in Bihar also stopped ongoing bridge and road construction near the border. Floodwater damaged a temporary diversion built for a new bridge project, forcing authorities to halt the work until the water level drops.
