The debate over the Bihar Liquor Ban has intensified after JD(U) MLA Anant Kumar Singh demanded that the state government remove the prohibition law. He said the Bihar Liquor Ban has failed to stop people from drinking and has instead encouraged illegal activities.
Speaking to the media, Anant Kumar Singh said people in both cities and villages still consume alcohol despite the ban. According to him, many people now drink secretly or use unsafe alternatives, which can harm their health. He argued that legalizing alcohol sales would reduce illegal trade and protect people from dangerous substances.
Singh also pointed out that the prohibition law has caused revenue losses for the state. He said the government could regulate alcohol sales and punish those who drink in public or create disturbances.
The MLA added that he plans to raise the issue with Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary. The prohibition policy was originally introduced in 2016 by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
The demand has sparked fresh political debate about whether Bihar should review or continue its strict liquor ban.
