The TG vs AP war over Krishna River waters has intensified as officials from both states meet today to discuss water sharing. The issue mainly relates to the release of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir.
The TG vs AP war over Krishna River waters began after Andhra Pradesh asked for 10 TMC of water through the right canal of Nagarjuna Sagar. The state said it needs the water to meet drinking water demand until May 31.
Telangana opposed the request. Officials said the state also faces a serious water shortage. They said Telangana needs nearly 18 TMC of water until July.
This water will supply drinking needs in Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Suryapet, and Khammam districts. Officials warned that releasing water now may create problems later.
The Krishna River Management Board will hold a key meeting at Jala Soudha in Hyderabad. Officials from both states will review water levels and take a decision.
The meeting result may influence the next KRMB board discussion.
