Former IAS officer Aakunuri Murali resigned from his role as Telangana Education Commission chairman on Friday. He submitted his resignation letter to Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao after completing the commission’s comprehensive education reform report.
Aakunuri Murali said the commission had finished the task assigned by the Telangana government. He thanked the government for giving him the opportunity to lead the panel and requested approval of his resignation. Reports said he still had a few months left in his tenure.
The Telangana Education Commission was formed in 2024 to improve education standards across the state. The panel recently submitted recommendations on reforms in public and private education. Some of the suggestions, especially on staff salary rationalisation, triggered criticism from teacher unions.
The resignation of Aakunuri Murali has now sparked discussion in Telangana’s education sector about the future of the commission and its recommendations.
