The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has decided not to increase bus ticket prices despite the sharp rise in diesel costs. The TGSRTC fare hike issue gained attention after fuel prices increased due to global tensions and changes in the international oil market.
TGSRTC officials said passengers will continue to travel at the current fares for now. The corporation wants to protect common people from extra financial pressure. Officials added that they may review the situation later if diesel prices remain high for a long period.
The transport corporation operates more than 10,000 buses across Telangana and uses nearly six lakh litres of diesel every day. According to internal estimates, every ₹1 increase in diesel price adds more than ₹1 crore burden per month on the corporation. The recent fuel price rise may increase TGSRTC expenses by nearly ₹10 crore every month.
Even with the growing financial burden, TGSRTC has chosen not to pass the cost to passengers through a TGSRTC fare hike.
