A shocking Death Penalty Verdict from the Supreme Court has drawn nationwide attention. The apex court acquitted a man who spent 13 years on death row in a rape and murder case after finding major loopholes in the investigation and trial process.
The Supreme Court said lower courts ignored key medical evidence while awarding the death sentence. Doctors had earlier confirmed that the accused suffered from a physical condition that made sexual activity impossible. Despite this, trial and High Court judges convicted him and awarded capital punishment.
A three-judge bench led by Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and Vijay Bishnoi overturned the earlier rulings. The bench also cleared another accused person in the same case.
The court strongly criticized the prosecution for failing to prove motive and relying on weak evidence. Judges stated that courts must carefully examine medical reports before delivering severe punishments like the death penalty.
The ruling has once again sparked debate about wrongful convictions and the importance of fair investigation in criminal cases.
