RLSP chief Upendra Kushwaha called the Mahagathbandhan’s Voter Rights Yatra a failure. However, he admitted that it may still help Rahul Gandhi by giving him visibility in Bihar. Kushwaha, a BJP ally, said Congress could gain political mileage from the issue.
Kushwaha also stressed that the Election Commission should have given more time for the Supplementary Inclusion Revision (SIR) of voter lists. He argued that many voters faced difficulties. In his interview with The Indian Express, he repeated that he had raised this point two months ago when SIR began.
He said SIR was not a ground-level issue, but voters needed more time. At the same time, he made it clear that Nitish Kumar will remain Chief Minister under NDA leadership. This, he added, leaves no room for debate. When asked about Amit Shah’s comment that the CM decision would come after elections, Kushwaha replied that Nitish would continue as CM. He also suggested that Nitish’s son Nishant Kumar should step into politics.
Meanwhile, Kushwaha is preparing for a massive rally at Patna’s Miller Ground, where supporters from several districts are expected. He has earlier led rallies across Bihar on the SIR issue.
