Egg attack on Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan outside Adiala Jail shocked Pakistan’s political circles on Friday. The incident took place when Aleema was addressing reporters outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where her brother, the jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been incarcerated for more than two years.
Social media footage showed Aleema being struck with an egg. PTI supporters immediately caught two women accused of throwing the eggs and handed them over to police. Authorities later confirmed that the women had traveled to Rawalpindi with the All-Government Employees Grand Alliance to protest unmet demands.
A Rawalpindi police statement claimed that Aleema did not respond to questions raised by the women before the attack. Police moved the accused to the Adiala checkpoint for questioning.
PTI strongly condemned the egg attack on Imran Khan’s sister, calling it “shameful.” The party alleged that police helped the women escape later, suggesting the act was politically motivated.
Leaders across party lines also denounced the attack. BNP-M chief Akhtar Mengal said targeting women in politics showed “the lowest form of politics.” Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal urged political rivals to engage in “debate, not violence.”
The egg attack on Imran Khan’s sister highlighted rising tensions, adding fuel to Pakistan’s already charged political climate.
