The BJP in Karnataka has demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over his failure to allocate development funds to even his own party’s MLAs. R Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition, slammed the Congress government for being “bankrupt.” He mentioned that Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy, despite being a senior cabinet member, had to plead with the Chief Minister for a mere Rs 2 crore to fund Scheduled Caste colonies in his constituency. Ashoka also pointed out that Congress MLAs like Kothur Manjunath claimed that they had to “fall at the feet” of Siddaramaiah to receive any funds.
In a disturbing remark, MLA Gaviyappanavar said that he might be forced to commit suicide in front of Vidhana Soudha if the government continues to ignore their needs. Ashoka called for Siddaramaiah to step down, criticizing his rule and claiming it is harming the state. Meanwhile, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy raised concerns over a Rs 15,000 crore shortfall in funds due to GST reforms, worsening the state’s financial crisis.
