Patna Clashes Over BPSC TRE 4

Police lathi-charge on protesting teacher candidates during BPSC TRE 4 protests in Patna.

Protests in Patna over the Bihar Public Service Commission’s (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE 4) escalated into clashes with police on Tuesday. Teacher candidates demanding the TRE 4 notification and release of 1.20 lakh vacancies faced lathi-charge. The phrase “BPSC TRE 4 protests” became the center of attention as several aspirants were injured during the crackdown.

Thousands of teacher aspirants gathered in the capital city, blocking major roads including JP Golambar and Dak Bungalow Chowk. Tension rose when protesters attempted to break through police barricades. In response, police used batons to disperse the crowd, leading to chaos and traffic disruptions across Patna.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that several students sustained injuries. The candidates pressed for the release of TRE 4 notification before September 15 and demanded vacancies be raised to 1.20 lakh.

Meanwhile, the Nitish Kumar government clarified that the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) would be held first. Applications will close in September, followed by exams in October. Only after that will the BPSC TRE 4 recruitment start, with December tentatively set for exams. However, aspirants argue TRE 4 must be completed before the Bihar Assembly elections expected in October–November.

With heavy police deployment continuing in protest areas, the situation remains tense in Patna. The demand for BPSC TRE 4 protests highlights growing unrest among teacher candidates awaiting recruitment.
