C P Radhakrishnan has been elected as the 15th Vice President of India. The NDA candidate won the contest by securing 452 votes, defeating opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy, who managed 300 votes.
The election saw 767 MPs casting their votes, with 752 ballots marked valid. The turnout reached 98.2 percent, showing strong participation. Radhakrishnan’s margin of victory was larger than expected, with signs of cross-voting from rival parties.
Radhakrishnan, aged 67, is currently the Governor of Maharashtra and a veteran leader with decades of political experience in the Jana Sangh and BJP. His strong RSS background and long service in Tamil Nadu politics made him a well-recognized figure within the NDA.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him, calling him a leader who has always worked for the poor and marginalized. Modi expressed confidence that Radhakrishnan will serve as an outstanding Vice President of India.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Prime Minister Modi, and Congress MP Sonia Gandhi were among those who cast their votes at the Parliament premises. With this win, Radhakrishnan begins his new journey, promising to uphold constitutional values and serve the nation with dedication.
