The ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) has signed a formal agreement with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the transfer of technology to produce Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLVs). This agreement marks a major step in private industry participation in India’s growing space sector.

The deal, finalized in Bengaluru, also involves NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) and INSPACe. It is the 100th technology transfer facilitated by INSPACe. HAL won the bid for this project against a consortium led by Adani Group-backed Alpha Design Technologies.

The agreement aims to complete the entire technology transfer within 24 months. During this period, ISRO will provide training and technical support to HAL, ensuring they acquire the know-how to independently produce SSLVs. ISRO chairman V Narayanan said the initiative reflects India’s liberalisation of the commercial space sector, where opportunities are rapidly growing.

According to INSPACe chairman Pawan Kumar Goenka, the partnership will help HAL develop SSLVs for both domestic and international markets. He added that this collaboration will empower India’s space industry and strengthen its position as a global hub for affordable and reliable launch services.
