A tragedy struck Naim-Nagar in Hanamkonda on Thursday when a 10th class student, Jayanthvardhan (15), collapsed and died while playing on his school grounds. The incident has shocked classmates, teachers, and the wider community, raising fresh concerns about student health and emergency preparedness in schools.
According to reports, Jayanthvardhan attended classes as usual in the morning. During the lunch break, he went out with friends to play on the school playground. While running, he suddenly collapsed. Other students and staff rushed to his side, and within minutes, he was taken to a nearby private hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police said that the cause of death is not yet clear. A post-mortem examination has been ordered to determine whether it was due to cardiac arrest, dehydration, or another underlying health condition. Officials also visited the school to speak with staff and examine the sequence of events.
The boy’s sudden death has left his parents and family devastated. Relatives are demanding answers and have urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. Local residents also expressed concern about the lack of immediate medical facilities in many schools.
Education activists have stressed the need for basic health checks, first-aid training, and regular medical camps for students, especially those in higher classes who face physical and mental stress during exams. They also highlighted the importance of quick-response systems in schools to handle emergencies.
Meanwhile, grief-stricken classmates organized a small gathering in memory of Jayanthvardhan, remembering him as a friendly and active student. Police assured the family that the probe would be carried out fairly and the findings of the post-mortem would be shared soon.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the urgent need for better health monitoring and safety measures for schoolchildren in Telangana.
