Hyderabad police foiled two major online fraud attempts, saving victims from losing a combined ₹1.18 lakh. A 48-year-old tailor from Moghalpura received an APK file named “RTO CHALLAN” on WhatsApp on September 11, 2025. Thinking it was genuine, he installed the file on his phone. Fraudsters quickly gained access to his device, intercepted OTPs, and used his saved card details to place orders worth ₹95,239 on Flipkart, Amazon, and Myntra.
The tailor reported the matter, and the cybercrime team acted swiftly. They removed the malware, blocked the fraudulent purchases, and saved him from a huge financial blow.
In another case, a 35-year-old tech professional from Ashok Nagar faced a similar attack. Criminals tried to steal ₹23,532 through fake transactions. Police blocked the orders before the money could be lost.
Cybercrime officers warned Hyderabad residents to stay alert against Hyderabad APK fraud alert cases. They advised citizens not to download APK files sent via WhatsApp, SMS, or social media unless verified.
The quick action of Hyderabad police once again highlights the growing need for awareness in digital safety.
