Mumbai’s monorail service faced another disruption on Monday morning, leaving passengers stranded mid-route. The train, which started from Gadge Maharaj station around 7 a.m., stopped abruptly near Mukundrao Ambedkar Road Junction while heading toward Chembur.
According to officials, a sudden technical glitch forced the monorail to halt on the tracks. The passengers inside panicked as the train remained motionless. The loco pilot immediately contacted the technical team, which rushed to the site for assistance.
Within 30 minutes, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) technical staff, along with the fire brigade’s special rescue vehicle, reached the location. Working in coordination, they evacuated all 17 passengers from the stranded train safely. None of the travelers suffered any injuries during the operation.
The technical in-charge later confirmed that the train was being shifted using a coupling method to the depot for repairs. He also assured that everyone was safe and that the rescue operation had ended successfully. This incident highlights recurring concerns about the reliability of Mumbai’s monorail system, which has faced similar breakdowns in the past.
