A recent study has found that weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro can change the taste of food for some patients. Many users of these drugs have noticed that their food tastes either sweeter or saltier than before.
The study, published in Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, showed that around 20% of participants experienced a stronger taste of sweetness, while another 20% felt food tasted saltier. These changes were linked to a decrease in appetite.
Professor Othmar Moser led the research at the University of Bayreuth in Germany. He said that these changes could help doctors tailor treatments and dietary advice. The study involved 411 overweight and obese participants using Ozempic, Wegovy, or Mounjaro for weight management.
Most participants reported reduced hunger. However, Moser explained that changes in taste alone may not directly lead to weight loss. These drugs affect both hunger regulation and taste, which can influence appetite but are not the only factors in weight loss.
