BBMB has responded to Ludhiana’s Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain’s request by lowering the outflow from Bhakra Dam from 85,000 to 70,000 cusecs. This action helps reduce the risk of further breaches along the Sutlej River’s embankments. The reduced water discharge will allow the authorities to manage repairs and mitigate the impact on nearby areas.
As the rain activity has decreased, the average inflow into the dam is now about 70,000 cusecs. Experts predict that the weather will remain relatively dry in the coming days. Consequently, BBMB officials plan to maintain the current outflow level of 70,000 cusecs for the next few days.
As of 6 am on Friday, the water level in Bhakra Dam stood at 1,678.74 feet. In Pong Dam, the level remained high at 1,394.71 feet, with an inflow of 105,950 cusecs and an outflow of 99,763 cusecs.
The reduced outflow has eased the pressure on communities along the Sutlej River, including Ropar, though authorities continue to urge vigilance.
