West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose cut short his personal visit to Tamil Nadu and Kerala on Monday, October 6, 2025, to rush to Darjeeling after severe landslides struck the region. The calamity claimed at least 24 lives, with several people still missing. Torrential rains disrupted transport, leaving thousands of tourists stranded in isolated hill pockets.
Governor Bose arrived in Darjeeling to personally oversee rescue operations and meet with disaster management teams. He assured residents that the administration would intensify rescue and relief work to bring normalcy. The Governor also spoke to affected families to understand their needs.
Authorities face tough challenges due to continuous rainfall, steep terrain, and damaged infrastructure. Rescue teams have been working day and night to evacuate stranded people and recover missing bodies. Helicopters and heavy machinery are engaged in clearing debris and restoring connectivity to isolated areas.
Governor Bose announced he would submit a detailed report by evening with specific recommendations for competent authorities to ensure effective relief and rehabilitation. His presence aims to boost morale among rescuers and reassure victims that the government is taking decisive action.
The visit reflects the state government’s urgent commitment to managing disasters and safeguarding affected communities. Officials confirmed that relief camps have been set up and supplies are being distributed to those impacted.
