The Bihar Police SI Recruitment case took a major turn after the Patna High Court cancelled the appointment order for 283 candidates. The court overturned an earlier decision that had directed the state government to give them jobs as sub-inspectors.
A division bench of the Patna High Court set aside the single bench ruling that had asked the government to appoint medically fit candidates within six weeks. The government challenged that order through an appeal. After hearing the case, the court issued a detailed 42-page judgment and cancelled the appointment order.
The case relates to an old recruitment process for sub-inspectors in Bihar Police. The Bihar Police SI Recruitment drive started in 2004 for 1,510 posts. Physical tests took place in 2006, and the written exam results came out in 2008. Later, disputes over errors in model answers led to legal challenges and repeated reviews of the results.
Some candidates demanded appointments citing earlier Supreme Court directions under which 133 candidates had already received jobs. However, the High Court said those appointments cannot serve as a precedent for others.
With this verdict, the hopes of 283 candidates to join the police force have come to an end.
