Hyderabad: The Central government has approved the construction of third and fourth railway lines between Secunderabad (Medchal–Ghatkesar) and Kazipet at an estimated cost of ₹2,837 crore. The new double-line expansion will span approximately 110 kilometers, passing through Medchal, Yadadri, Jangaon, and Hanamkonda (HNK) districts.

Currently, trains take about 2.5 to 3 hours to cover this stretch, but once the new lines are completed, the travel time is expected to reduce by nearly an hour. The project aims to enhance passenger and freight train movement, ease congestion on the busy route, and significantly improve operational efficiency.

With upgraded tracks, trains will be able to run at speeds of 130–150 km/h, boosting connectivity between Hyderabad and key northern destinations. This major infrastructure upgrade is part of Indian Railways’ long-term modernization and capacity expansion strategy in South Central India.
