DGP Urges Public Awareness as Cybercrime Complaints Cross 62,000 in 2025
Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta has stressed the need for greater public awareness to prevent the rising number of cybercrimes, including new forms of fraud such as “digital arrest.” He said cybercriminals are increasingly using fear, impersonation, and technology to deceive victims, making awareness the strongest line of defence.
In 2025 alone, Andhra Pradesh Police received more than 62,000 cybercrime-related complaints and registered 2,332 cases. Financial losses reported in these offences amounted to about ₹815 crore, highlighting the serious economic impact of cyber fraud on the public. The DGP noted that many crimes could be avoided if people verified calls, messages, and online claims before responding or sharing personal details.
He urged citizens to report cyber offences immediately through official helplines and portals, as early reporting improves chances of recovery. The police are also conducting awareness programmes and strengthening cybercrime units to tackle the growing threat more effectively.
