Global Crackdown on Drug Trafficking: INTERPOL Seizes $6.5 Billion Worth of Drugs

INTERPOL has carried out one of its largest operations against drug trafficking. The operation led to the seizure of $6.5 billion worth of synthetic drugs. Authorities intercepted 76 tonnes of drugs, including 51 tonnes of methamphetamine. The drugs also included fentanyl, heroin, and other dangerous chemicals.

The two-week operation resulted in 386 arrests. Among those arrested was a suspect accused of smuggling methamphetamine through Incheon National Airport.

The operation, called Lionfish-Mayag III, targeted synthetic drug trafficking networks in 18 countries across Asia and North America. In India, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) played a major role. They dismantled a darknet drug network that sold ketamine and LSD. This network was responsible for more than 600 drug shipments in the past 14 months.

India’s government is committed to wiping out drug trafficking. Home Minister Amit Shah said that the country is focused on eliminating the drug menace. Authorities have also started destroying narcotics worth Rs 4,794 crore that were seized across the country.
