Hyderabad faced severe flooding after heavy rainfall caused the River Musi to overflow, along with the release of water from Osman Sagar and Himayat Nagar reservoirs. Low-lying areas, especially in the Old City and Moosarambagh, were inundated, prompting the evacuation of over 1,000 residents to relief camps. Authorities provided food and essential supplies to those displaced.
The river’s rising waters, fueled by heavy inflows from upstream areas, caused panic among locals. In Moosarambagh, an under-construction bridge is at risk, as the raging river has washed away parts of the centering equipment. Floodwaters also entered the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), disrupting bus operations. Passengers stranded at the station were evacuated safely under supervision.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy personally reviewed the relief measures and remained in constant contact with officials to ensure safe evacuation and diversion of buses. He instructed authorities to prioritize the safe movement of passengers, especially during the ongoing Dasara and Bathukamma festivities, directing TGSRTC to take necessary precautions.
With the Indian Meteorological Department forecasting more heavy rain, the Chief Minister ordered the police, traffic police, civic authorities, and electricity departments to stay alert. Officials have also been directed to install display boards at waterlogged areas and flood-prone points along the Musi, and implement traffic diversions without causing inconvenience to commuters.
