Israel should learn how to treat national honour as a strategic asset from India, according to defence policy expert Zaki Shalom. Writing in The Jerusalem Post, Shalom praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tough stance against the United States on tariffs and border clashes with Pakistan as examples of strong national leadership.
The first paragraph again: Israel should learn how to treat national honour as a strategic asset from India, according to defence policy expert Zaki Shalom.
He pointed out that Modi rejected US pressure on Russian oil imports and firmly denied President Donald Trump’s claim of mediating peace with Pakistan. Modi even declined four of Trump’s phone calls, which Shalom described as a clear stand rooted in both personal and national honour.
In contrast, Shalom criticised Israel’s reaction to the Khan Yunis hospital bombing in Gaza, where an Israeli strike killed at least 20 people. He said that separate statements from the IDF, the chief of staff, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showed anxiety and fear of global criticism.
Shalom argued that India’s example proves that national honour is not a luxury but a long-term strategic strength. He concluded that Israel must project resilience and avoid sending signals of panic if it wishes to secure its global standing and security.
