Punjab Floods: Ludhiana district has issued a high alert after floodwaters from the Sutlej River threatened embankments in the eastern part of the district. Authorities warned that several villages, including Sasrali, Boont, and Rawat, are at risk of flooding if the embankment weakens further.
Residents in low-lying areas have been advised to move to upper floors or seek shelter in safer locations. Relief centers have been set up at various sites, including Satsang Ghars along Rahon Road and schools in Mattewara. Authorities also urge people to secure important documents in waterproof bags.
The state faces one of the worst flood disasters in decades, with the overflowing Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers and heavy rains causing widespread damage. Over 21,000 people have been evacuated, and 3.84 lakh individuals have been affected in 1,902 villages across 23 districts. More than 1.7 lakh hectares of crops have been submerged.
The death toll has risen to 43, with the highest casualties in Hoshiarpur and Pathankot. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has coordinated relief efforts and ordered an immediate assessment of damages to crops and infrastructure.
