Southwest Monsoon Likely to Hit Andaman by May 16, Bringing Relief from Heat

Southwest monsoon likely to hit Andaman by May 16, offering possible relief from the intense summer heat across parts of India.

The southwest monsoon likely to hit Andaman by May 16 may bring hope for relief from the intense summer heat affecting several regions. Weather experts say atmospheric conditions are becoming favourable for the early progress of the monsoon system.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon likely to hit Andaman by May 16 could first reach the Andaman Sea and nearby islands before moving toward mainland India.

A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal and strong wind patterns are helping the monsoon advance. These conditions may trigger rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in some regions over the coming days.

Several parts of Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states are experiencing intense heat, with temperatures crossing 40°C in many districts. Weather officials expect scattered rain and thunderstorms in some areas, which may provide temporary relief.

Usually, the monsoon reaches the Andaman region in mid-May and later advances toward the Kerala coast around June 1, marking the start of India’s rainy season.
