Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Donald Trump invited him to join the new “Board of Peace.” The council aims to implement the US-backed Gaza ceasefire plan. Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian diplomats are reviewing the invitation. However, he expressed doubts about working alongside Russia. He said it remains hard to imagine joint participation in any shared council.
The Kremlin also confirmed that Russia received an invitation. The move comes during the fifth year of the Russia-Ukraine war. The conflict has killed thousands of civilians and many soldiers on both sides. Zelensky warned that cooperation would remain difficult without real progress toward peace.
Reports say Trump plans to chair the council. Countries may need to pay one billion dollars for permanent membership. Only Trump can approve members. Heads of state or government will represent participating nations.
Several leaders reportedly received invitations. They include China, India, Russia, Ukraine, and Canada. Israel has also been asked to join. French officials said they have not yet accepted the offer.
Trump announced the council while pushing broader geopolitical goals. These include renewed pressure over Greenland. The board’s charter does not limit its role to Gaza. Observers expect wider diplomatic involvement.
