ZPM MLA TBC Lalvenchhunga Resigns as Mizoram CM Advisor

TBC Lalvenchhunga submitting resignation as Mizoram CM’s finance advisor

Aizawl: TBC Lalvenchhunga, a Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) MLA, has submitted his resignation from the post of Finance and Planning Advisor to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, officials confirmed. The resignation was tendered on Monday, although the Chief Minister has not officially accepted it yet.

Currently, Chief Minister Lalduhoma has five advisors with minister of state rank, four of whom are sitting MLAs. Lalvenchhunga explained that he stepped down “for the betterment of his party and to improve governance,” adding that his responsibilities as an MLA require full attention. He believes he can contribute more effectively to both the government and the strengthening of ZPM without holding the advisory position.

Lalvenchhunga represents Aizawl West-I, a seat he won in the 2023 Mizoram Assembly elections by defeating MNF MLA Zothantluanga. Following his election, he was appointed as an advisor to the Chief Minister. Prior to this, he had contested the 2018 assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls on PRISM party tickets, establishing a long-standing political career in Mizoram.

Political observers note that Lalvenchhunga’s resignation comes shortly after the Dampa bypoll, where the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) reclaimed the seat, highlighting challenges for ZPM in consolidating governance. Analysts suggest the resignation may lead to a reshuffle of advisory roles in the Chief Minister’s office and could influence the party’s strategy in the coming legislative sessions.

While the Chief Minister’s office has yet to indicate whether the resignation will be accepted, Lalvenchhunga’s decision underscores the balancing act MLAs face between party responsibilities and governance duties.
