Kerala BJP Leader Booked for Death Threat Remark on Rahul Gandhi

Kerala BJP Leader Booked for death threat

On September 29, 2025, the Kerala Police registered a case against BJP leader Printu Mahadevan for making a death threat remark on Rahul Gandhi during a television debate. Officials said Mahadevan declared that “bullets will pierce” Gandhi’s chest, sparking outrage and a formal complaint.

The Peramangalam police in Thrissur filed the case after receiving a complaint from Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) secretary Sreekumar C.C. Police said Mahadevan made the remark on September 26, 2025, while discussing protests in Bangladesh and Nepal during a debate on a Malayalam news channel.

During the debate, Mahadevan said such protests could not happen in India because people strongly support Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He then added the threat about Rahul Gandhi. Congress leaders condemned the statement, calling it dangerous and unacceptable.

The FIR lists offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita: Section 192 (provocation to cause riot), Section 353 (intentional insult to provoke peace breach), and Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation).

This incident has sparked widespread political controversy in Kerala. Opposition leaders said it showed growing intolerance in political discourse. Many called for stronger legal action and better regulation of televised debates to prevent harmful remarks.

Rahul Gandhi has not yet responded publicly, but Congress leaders demanded that police act swiftly. The case on September 29, 2025, has placed Mahadevan under sharp political and legal scrutiny, with national attention now focusing on the matter.
