India has welcomed the peace deal between Israel and Hamas, brokered by the United States, that promises to end nearly two years of war in Gaza. The agreement focuses on the release of hostages and a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the deal this morning, calling it a reflection of Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu’s strong leadership. He expressed hope that the release of hostages and increased humanitarian aid will bring relief to people in Gaza and open the path toward lasting peace. Modi also tagged US President Donald Trump and Netanyahu in his online post.
Announcing the deal, President Trump said Hamas would release all hostages “very soon” and Israel would pull back its troops beyond a defined line. He described it as a “great day” for both Israel and the Arab-Muslim world.
For Netanyahu, the deal marks a diplomatic and moral victory. He said Israel would not rest until every hostage returns home, crediting Trump’s support and Israel’s military strength for reaching this milestone.
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli border towns. The new agreement could finally bring an end to the bloodshed.
