Bride’s Cousin Dies During Jaimala Ceremony

Scene representing a tragic celebratory firing incident at an Indian wedding ceremony

A celebratory firing incident during a wedding in Rohtas, Bihar, ended in tragedy. The event took place in Thanua village, where the bride’s cousin lost his life. The celebratory firing incident happened during the Jaimala ceremony, soon after the Dwarpuja rituals.

Nandan Kumar Singh, a 50-year-old schoolteacher from Chilhar village in Buxar district, was sitting on the stage when a group of young men began firing country-made pistols into the air. One bullet struck him, and he died on the spot. The wedding family rushed to finish the remaining rituals due to fear and shock.

Police reached the location quickly and arrested three men: Prabhat Singh, Rohit Kumar, and Kundan Singh. Officers also seized a pistol, cartridges, and a bike. The accused were sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile, three other men involved in the case—Avinash Singh, Bam Kumar, and Abhiranjan Kumar—are still missing. Raids are underway to catch them.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about illegal weapons and rising misuse of firearms at weddings in Bihar.
