The long-pending Mohali-Kurali-Baddi Greenfield Bypass is finally set to open on December 15, providing significant relief to daily commuters. Farmers from Bajhedi village, who had been protesting on the highway for several days over local access concerns, have ended their sit-in after receiving a written assurance from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The bypass, which was scheduled for a trial run on November 29–30, had to be postponed due to the ongoing protest. With the agreement now finalized, the route will be opened fully for public use, benefiting motorists traveling between Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh. The new stretch is also expected to end the chronic traffic jams on Airport Road, improving travel time and reducing congestion.
During the joint site visit, both farmers and NHAI officials agreed that creating a direct access point on the Greenfield Highway would compromise safety and hinder toll operations. However, NHAI accepted the demand for a service road link that would ensure local connectivity. This proposal will be sent for approval to the competent authority, and construction is expected to begin within 8–12 weeks.
The development marks a major breakthrough for regional traffic planning and long-term connectivity.
