In a major infrastructure boost for Punjab’s Malwa region, the Union Government has approved a halt at Barnala for the Ferozepur–Delhi Vande Bharat Express. The decision will directly benefit Barnala and nearby districts including Mansa, Malerkotla, and Sangrur.
Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu announced the approval on Wednesday at the Parliament House complex. He said leaders from different political parties had consistently raised the demand for a Barnala stoppage. The request reflected the region’s long-standing need for faster rail access to Delhi.
Bittu stated that Aam Aadmi Party MP Meet Hayer, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Rajender Gupta, and BJP leader Kewal Singh Dhillon jointly pursued the matter with the Railways. Their efforts helped secure the approval for the premium train’s halt.
The minister said the new stoppage will strengthen economic activity in central Punjab. Improved connectivity will support traders, professionals, students, and daily commuters. Faster travel will also encourage business movement between Malwa and the national capital.
With this approval, the Ferozepur–Delhi Vande Bharat Express will serve a wider population. The move marks another step in expanding modern rail infrastructure across Punjab and improving regional mobility.
