A leopard that entered a residential area in Udaipur was successfully rescued by the Forest Department after keeping locals in fear for more than eight hours. The incident occurred in Krishna Pura Colony of the Bhupalpura area, where CCTV footage captured the leopard’s movement around 5:30 am on Wednesday.
According to visuals, the leopard moved from one house to another, jumping across rooftops and entering multiple premises. Its frequent change of location made the rescue operation challenging. Residents remained confined indoors as panic spread across the colony.
After receiving information, teams from the Forest Department rushed to the spot and began a coordinated search operation. Police were also deployed to manage the situation and control the crowd that gathered despite safety warnings. Authorities repeatedly appealed to people to stay indoors due to the potential risk.
Local residents said they became suspicious early in the morning when no stray dogs were seen in the streets during routine walks. A review of CCTV footage later confirmed the leopard’s presence. In one of the houses entered by the animal, family members were reportedly inside, adding to the tension.
After hours of effort, the Forest Department successfully tranquilised the leopard and shifted it safely. No injuries were reported. Officials said further monitoring will be done to prevent similar incidents in the area.
