Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre: IBM to Install Quantum Computer

Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre announcement

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has approved IBM’s proposal to set up a state-of-the-art Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre. The centre is part of the government’s mission to transform Amaravati into a hub for advanced technology and research.

The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has already allotted 50 acres of land for developing a Quantum Valley. This initiative will benefit universities, startups, and industries working in research and innovation.

IBM will install a 133-qubit, 5,000-gate quantum computer in a 2,000 sq ft facility with advanced infrastructure. To encourage academic and government use, IBM initially offered subsidised rentals at ₹10 per sq ft and 250 hours of free computing time annually.

After review, the Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre (AQCC) board agreed to set the rent at ₹30 per sq ft in line with state norms. At the same time, free computing time was increased to 365 hours per year for universities and government institutions.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who chairs the Andhra Pradesh Quantum Mission, endorsed the decision. IT Secretary Bhaskar Katamaneni formally issued the government orders on Monday, marking a big step forward in building India’s quantum future.
