The Karnataka Hijab Ban Lifted decision has sparked fresh debate across the state. The Karnataka government has officially withdrawn the controversial 2022 order that restricted students from wearing hijabs in educational institutions.
With the Karnataka Hijab Ban Lifted, students can now wear religious symbols such as hijab, turbans, scarves, and rudraksha while attending classes or exams. However, these items must follow the institution’s uniform rules and should not replace the prescribed dress code.
The earlier ban was introduced in February 2022 by the previous government and triggered nationwide protests and legal battles. The issue began in a college in Udupi and later reached courts, including the Karnataka High Court and the Supreme Court.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said dress and food choices are personal matters. Supporters say the move promotes inclusivity, while critics argue it could affect discipline in educational institutions.
