External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will attend the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 2025) in New York. Reports confirm that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not travel to the United States for this year’s assembly, making Jaishankar India’s key representative.
The UNGA 2025 is a crucial global forum where leaders discuss international peace, security, and development. By sending Jaishankar, the government aims to ensure India’s strong presence while the Prime Minister focuses on pressing domestic matters.
Jaishankar is expected to highlight India’s stance on global challenges, including counterterrorism, climate action, digital inclusion, and reforms in multilateral institutions. His address at the UNGA 2025 will also reaffirm India’s call for a greater role in the UN Security Council.
Diplomatic watchers note that PM Modi’s absence from the US visit indicates a shift in priorities, with more attention given to national issues ahead of key political developments at home. However, Jaishankar’s participation guarantees that India’s foreign policy positions remain visible on the global stage.
With UNGA 2025 around the corner, Jaishankar’s role becomes central in shaping India’s international narrative while PM Modi stays focused within India.
