Microsoft Wants Employees Back in Office Three Days a Week as part of its updated hybrid work policy. The tech giant confirmed that the rule will begin in the United States next year before expanding to other countries.
Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer Kathleen Hogan announced the change. She said employees must report to the office three times a week while continuing to work remotely on other days. The policy, she explained, is not about reducing headcount but about strengthening collaboration and innovation.
Microsoft had previously allowed flexible work-from-home arrangements during and after the pandemic. However, company leaders believe in-person interactions are crucial for teamwork, mentorship, and culture-building. Hogan added that the decision followed months of feedback from managers and employees.
The shift will affect thousands of U.S.-based employees starting in early 2026. The company plans to roll out the same model in international offices later that year. Microsoft emphasized that flexibility remains a priority, with exceptions for employees in unique roles or situations.
With this step, Microsoft joins other global tech companies pushing for a stronger return-to-office culture. The move highlights the ongoing debate in the corporate world about balancing remote work and physical presence.
