Rajasthan ACB Faces Setback As RPS Officer Divya Mittal Gets Clean Chit

The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has suffered a major blow after the state government refused to grant prosecution sanction in the high-profile ₹2 crore bribery case involving Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) officer Divya Mittal. The decision by the Personnel Department has effectively given Mittal a clean chit, raising serious questions over the ACB’s investigation.

The case dates back to 2021, when illegal and narcotic drugs worth nearly ₹16 crore were seized in Ajmer and Jaipur. Divya Mittal, then posted as SOG in-charge in Ajmer, was accused of demanding a ₹2 crore bribe from a Haridwar-based pharmaceutical firm to remove its name from the probe. The alleged deal was later said to have been reduced to ₹50 lakh.

Despite a three-year investigation, the ACB failed to present conclusive evidence strong enough to sustain prosecution. A trap attempt also failed, yet Mittal was arrested in January 2023, a move now under scrutiny.

Sources say the government cited procedural lapses, including non-compliance with Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which mandates prior approval before initiating action. Allegations of selective use of audio evidence further weakened the case. After reviewing all aspects, the government concluded the case would not stand in court.
